Thought I'd give you all a quick update on the progress with the S1. The old engine is out and the problem is fairly obvious: The really strange part is that is cylinder 4 but the bit of piston ended up in the exhaust valve on cylinder 1...its well travelled! The new engine is being dropped in tonight and I should have a shiny new turbo and ally rad delivered tommorow. Looks like I may yet make the Ford Fair deadline! CheeRS Chris

Do you know what caused you to hole the piston?

Just caused by an old tired engine. When I bought the car I looked at a few and decided it was best to get the one with good bodywork and a suspect engine then the other way round. Not sure what power it was pushing before. Was running all standard internals but with a chip, -31, pace cooler, full system and K&N. But obviously the tired old engine couldn't cope with a bar of boost. The new engine fitting didn't quite go according to plan this evening, had some problems fitting the new clutch and flywheel but it's done now. Hopefully will be dropped in tomorrow. The new engine spec is a bit more respectable than the old one: Mahle low comp forged pistons Stage 3 head Kent cam and Vernier pulley ARP bolts Modified K-Jet metering unit AP Racing clutch Lightened / balanced fly wheel and a crap load more i cant remember right now! Just ordered a stage 3 hybrid T3 as mine had a huge stress fracture running from the waste gate and an ally rad as my rad was literally falling apart! So really need some brakes now! And fingers crossed the gearbox can cope with the extra power for a little while longer! Ready to give that bloody saph another go! Hopefully i wont melt anything next time

Quick update:
New engine is mounted in after much buggering about with the clutch and flywheel.
New radiator didn't arrive, should be here tomorrow. Just need to put that in, remount the turbo, alternator, metering unit and plug everything back in. Hoping to have it fired up over the weekend fingers crossed.
Will keep you all informed.

Well its hit and miss when it comes to MFI. If the fuelling drops off under load then I'll have to tone it down a bit. Its had the metering unit modified to increase fueling so hopefully it will cope.
If I dont see at least 200@1bar then somethings wrong, and anything over that is a bonus.

Well another evening gone and a little bit further into it.
Fitted the new radiator, refitted the metering unit and intercooler. Also tidied up some wires and hoses.
Small problem with the alternator, seems the S1 had a different water pump which the alternator tensioning bracket fitted to, on the 90 spec S2 engine thats gone in the tensioner fits to the alternator bracket. So need to find a braket for it. Fingers crossed can find one at work tomorrow!
Will hopefully get the alternator, turbo and airbox fitted tomorrow and then its just a case of plugging it all back together!

Well the shiny new turbo is installed, fuel lines and injectors sorted. Had some major issues with the oil cooler pipes and a load of other random crap.
The finish line is in sight! Another evening on it tomorrow, then hopefully sometime this weekend should be in a position to (attempt to) fire it up.
The only issue I have is getting a setup on a rolling road before ford fair! Fingers crossed!

Well all the bits turned up, only problem is the exhaust flexi joint is the wrong size So the car will be ready to to FF other then the fact the exhaust is blowing like crazy. Sounds awful

Ditched the flexi joint welded in some 2.5" pipe as a temporary measure until the correct sized one arrives.
Had my first proper drive in it this evening, and i must say it pulls like a train! I love it!
Only problem is it was pissing it down and couldnt give it too much stick as it was spinning up in 4th...
Going to try and spend saturday giving it a bloody good clean inside and out and under the bonnet.
So I shall see you all at Ford Fair! (providing i make it this time lol)
